The Telisc OS is basically an archlinux. As a user of arch linux, it is intended to make it more user friendly for own purpose. There are few things needed to be described for “Why should someone will go for Telisc OS instead of arch?”
Arch linux installation require a long period of time to install and configure for make the system usable. When there some one ask me to do an arch install in their system it become painful for me. So, I simply reply that do not use arch! This is the main reason to come up with another linux distribution where the installation become very easier. It does not require Pre-installation, Post-installation, Configuration etc for a desktop or laptop user. Its very simple in two steps installation i.e., partition the disk and offline installation of Telisc OS.
2. Automatic OS detection:
In most case, it is found to be another OS is installed in the system for newbie. And they want to keep it as it is. It is not detected by default in arch (in grub). Telisc OS can detect those automatically which is very helpful for the newbie.
3. Plug and Play from USB:
It can be used from USB disk in any system (Desktop or laptop) for writing image into USB drive. It will offer root access to the system! It may help or it may become very dangerous for the user.
4. Offline installation (Less than 5 minutes):
In arch linux system, it require online (internet connection) connectivity. Besides Telisc system offers a simple offline installation with the i3 window manager and the required packages for basic and scientific use. It is intended to be first. So, Java packages are not included in basic installation and Python packages are provided for the scientific uses purposes. Multimedia packages are also included in the OS.
Other wise everything is same as in Arch linux. Basically, Telisc OS is an archlinux offline installation for the power user.
